On ethnicity

Fri Nov 15, 2002, 5:50 PM
Okay, so I'm asian tight. Vietnamese to be exact. Okay, half Vietnames half Chinese. Or so my parents say. Almost every Vietnamese person I know, which I'll admit is not that many, claims that they are Vetnamese-Chinese mix as well. Which leads me to think that sometime in the past there was some MAJOR type of migration of chinamen to Vietnam. It only makes sense. I know for a fact that the French occupied Vietnam for the longest, and I think that one of those baguette eaters banged a matriarch or somethin', oh wait it could have been the other way around. One of those Pho eating scoundrels may have knocked up a french maid or something, I don't know, we never will. Anyways, This brings me to the topic of AMERICANIZATION. You know that when immigrants arrive in this country, the are here to pursue "The American Dream" right? But I've started to realize after my five years at community college that the American dream is not really anything tangible. You know, the things that aren't concrte and holdable, are easily disputable, or how you say, relative. For example, many think that part of being an American is you know, speaking english, right? I mean, H-E-L-L-O? Of course, I can TOTally understand that people will be limited speakers of the language whe they first arrive but you know, after a while, they pick it up right?? Not so. In San Francisco's chinatown, there are people that have been here for HELLA years and still can't speak a damn sentence. I guess it's all about necessity. If you live in a small section of the city where there is everything you need, and it feels and smells, just like home, you'd stay there right? It's natural. Us humans look for stability, comfort, safety. But isn't there a clause somwhere that says you gotta interact with the other peoples here? I checked, there's not. Now on the issue of racism. there is a lot a stuff that goes on out there that is kinda, well, arguable as far as that goes. Remember the untangible? You see, if someone acts towards you in a way that you percieve as racist or to a lesser degree prejudiced, then you will be upset right? Of corse, but check it, things like that, you know, when you feel all, " oh no they were sooo mean to me because of my skin, or hair, or clothes, or pimples, or body,or odor, or the way I looked at them, or the booger on my cheek, or.." you get the point yet? How do you know it's not just you? Okay there are clearly some times when people are all, fuck you chinaman wannabe raver freak! On those days, I start swingin', but otherwise I deal. It just makes life a little easier.Oh yeah, don't think that I'm getting all wierd and deep right, but I mean it isn't even an ethnicity thing tho. My friend sean, he said one day that I sounded like a white boy. Now, I usually dont take that offensively, right, but it urked me that day. I was talking on the phone in a "business voice" ya know? Back to the american dream, it's all really about money. Land of opportunity actually means, COME HERE GET CASH. Theres nothing wrong with that, all I wanna say is that the powers that be and the existing corporate infrastructure in this country have devised an intricate net work of policy that insures that the power of the dollar is weilded by those who know. I'm sur none of this is new to you, it isn't new to anyone, so why isn it ancient history then?? Immigrants come here and work their asses off thinkin' dand when i goona be rich? Waitaminute. That makes me sound like I got no respect for the immigrants that actually made it. But my friend Sean, made me feel kinda like a sell out ya know, by not sounding "asianish" whatever tha fuck that means. On one hand, there are the ideals of Americanism, the other a legacy of cool cultural stuff that, I'll admit, I've somewhat ignored. The American dream is kinda like a ...I don't know what it's like, I cant put my finger on it. It's not tangible. Spin Spin Booger

Have you ever had a dream, that you were so sure was real? What if you were unable to wake from that dream? How would you know the difference between the dream world and the real world?

What you know you can't explain, but you feel it. You've felt it your entire deviant life, that there's something wrong with the story. You don't know what it is, but it's there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad.

You take the blue pill, the story ends. Your browser closes and you believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in wonderland. And, I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.

I offer only the truth, nothing more.
